General Manager of Marine Operations, Lyman-Morse Boatbuilding – Camden, Maine

Reporting to: Chief Operating Officer

Compensation will be determined by experience and will include a significant opportunity from a performance-based comp/bonus plan.

Overview:

As the General Manager of Marine Operations, you will lead one of the nation’s top boatyards and marinas. You will be instrumental in driving operational excellence, building a world class technical team, enhancing guest experiences, and identifying growth opportunities across all parts of the operation. Your visionary leadership will be pivotal in maintaining our reputation for exceptional service and in steering the organization towards unprecedented growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute a cohesive strategy that enhances operational efficiency, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Operational Management: Oversee the daily operations of the boatyard and marina, ensuring they meet the highest standards of hospitality.
  • Financial Oversight: Monitor and manage budgets, financial results, and resource allocation to ensure the financial health and growth of the business.
  • Team Leadership: Recruit, lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing management team to achieve business goals and operational excellence.

  • Stakeholder Relations: Maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including team members, clients, community groups, tenants, and the rest of the Lyman-Morse executive team.
  • Sustainability and Innovation: Promote sustainable practices and innovation across all operations to enhance competitiveness and address evolving market demands.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Logistics, Marine Trades or related fields or experiences.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in senior management roles ideally within the marine industry, with a proven track record in strategic planning and operational execution.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience in budget management, financial planning, and performance analysis.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with all levels of staff, guests, and stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of the marine industry, including current trends and challenges
  • Commitment to delivering the highest standards of customer service and operational excellence.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for the oversight of our tender construction with a commitment to delivering projects on time and within budget ensuring the work performed meets the customer’s expectations as well as Hodgdon Yachts standards. The Project Manager, within the constraints of the contract, will establish the production timeline and will coordinate necessary labor, materials, tools and equipment with the Production Manager. 

Bachelor’s degree plus 10 years of experience (or a combination of education and experience) with a concentration in Operations Management preferable in yacht manufacturing or the construction environment. 

General work week 6:00am-4:30pm Monday through Thursday.

We are looking for a dynamic individual to join the management team of our family operated boatyard business as General Manager of Hodgdon Yacht Services.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The General Manager (GM) is responsible for the management and supervision of all operating aspects of our full-service boatyard and marina located in the Boothbay region. 

The GM must be enthusiastic, a positive team leader, a professional with excellent business judgement, ambition, and have a vision for the future. Must be personable and approachable to all staff and have excellent communication skills and exceptional customer service abilities. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

POSITION SUMMARY:
HODGDON YACHTS is searching for an entry level Designer at our Tenders Division in Damariscotta, ME who will assist with the design of custom Tenders for the super yacht industry.  Successful candidates will have working knowledge of mechanical design and drafting.  Familiarity with naval architecture, boatbuilding methods and composite constructions are a plus.  They will assist senior members of the engineering team with preparation of drawings and documentation for fabrication and construction, as well as liaise with the production manager and other members of the production team to bring designs to completion.  We offer the opportunity to work on world class boats, great work environment, excellent benefits including health insurance, paid time off, holidays, 401(K) with employer match, and four-day work weeks.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ACTIVITIES:

  • Work directly with all individuals in the Design and Engineering Department as well as all other departments to support efficient production
  • Communicate with and support production department design needs based on the overall production schedule
  • Navigate, manipulate, or create 3D models and the associated drawings
  • Learn the basics of composite construction to assist with the design of components and tooling
  • Prepare models for 3D printing
  • Review specifications of equipment and designs to aid with regulatory compliance and safety considerations

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Familiarity with boat systems, boat construction, and naval architecture
    • Experience with 3D modeling, engineering drawing standards, and Microsoft Office
    • B.A. / B.S. or equivalent work experience
    • Solid Edge modeling a plus but not required

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:

Work schedule is generally 6:00am-4:30pm four days per week. From time to time, it may be necessary to work additional shifts or on weekends. Must be able to conform to the schedule, must follow safety rules and wear personal protective equipment as required.
