Safe Harbor Great Island is looking for an experienced Diesel Technician to join our growing team. Great Island takes pride in the quality of our technicians by offering continuing training and education, fostering a collaborative environment and using a process driven method which provides consistent unparallel customer service. Diesel Technicians inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair diesel engines and marine drive systems. Safe Harbor Great Island is an authorized dealer and service center for Volo Penta, Volvo IPS, Cummins, Mercruiser Diesel, Yanmar and Westerbeke.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Inspect, troubleshoot maintain, and repair multiple OEM brands of diesel engines on boats of all kinds
- Conduct all facets of engine repower projects
- Basic knowledge of rigging to remove and install engines and transmissions
- Utilize diagnostic equipment to diagnose issues and identify action plans
- Access on line parts manuals across OEM brands to identify and source parts
- Overall knowledge of marine drive systems including vibration troubleshooting and alignment
- Must possess own tools
- Availability to work overtime in order to meet deadlines
- Other duties as assigned by Manager
Safety and Environmental Responsibilities
- Follow SHM Safety and Environmental rules and complete required related training
- Wear proper personal protective equipment (may include safety glasses, gloves, life jackets and/or hard hats) as required for the task or work area
- Report all accidents, injuries, spills and near misses immediately
Technical and Physical Requirements
- Diesel Technical school training required
- 5 years’ or greater experience required
- ABYC and/or manufacturer certifications preferred
- Ability to ascend and descend a ladder carrying personal tools
- Ability to work in confined spaces
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
