Small Rockland-based publishing company is currently hiring for a full-time Office Manager/Special Projects Assistant. Candidates must have excellent computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Suite. Mac-based office. Requires the ability to work on-site as part of a team and independently in a small office environment, complete time-sensitive projects, have excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task. Overview:
Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors presents an eclectic collection of stories written for people who enjoy boats, the outdoors, and living and playing along the coast. In each issue of the magazine and in the website content, you’ll find history, art, architecture, science, profiles of a colorful characters, and boats and marine matters—everything that makes Maine unique. Each year we gather Maine’s finest artists, architects, boatbuilders, craftsmen, designers, furniture makers, jewelers, and marine gear vendors together at our Show in Rockland, Maine, during the second weekend of August.

Key Responsibilities:
Provide customer service and general office support for the magazine and annual Boat & Home Show

General office support:

  • Answer phones, check messages, greet office visitors
  • Maintain office calendars and meeting schedule
  • Provide customer service for subscription inquiries in coordination with fulfillment service
  • Meter outgoing mail and packages and deliver to Post Office, maintain mail center
  • Process online store orders, report deposits to bookkeeping, manage website store, renew website domain names upon expiration
  • Maintain office supplies and equipment, reconcile petty cash
  • Assist in maintaining and updating office platforms, software licenses and renewals
  • Coordinate office supplies, office maintenance instructions and payments
  • Maintain and manage office magazine inventory and storage
  • Coordinate renewals and payments for office news/magazine subscriptions
  • Manage in-house newsstand magazine program
  • Update MBH&H Table of Contents reference document each issue
  • Annually prepare office inventory for bookkeeping
  • Manage industry payment compliance
  • Process documents for regular upload to bookkeeping, file bills and other paperwork

Special Projects/Boat Show support:

  • Create and update vendor database records
  • Primary point of contact with show vendors: contracts, payments, insurance, guest ticket orders, and credentials
  • Run reports for show staff as needed
  • Order general supplies as needed
  • On-site all throughout the show, and is a key contact and resource for vendors and staff. Manages the show office: preps materials/exhibitor kits, trains and supervises personnel, and helps with vendor check-in.
  • Helps with post-show site clean up and organizing storage units.

Salary: $22 – $27 hourly

Are you looking for a hands-on, physically active job in the marine industry? We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Boatyard Yard Crew Member to join our team! This role is essential in keeping our boatyard running smoothly, assisting with vessel handling, maintenance, and general yard operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Haul, launch, block, and move boats using boatyard equipment
  • Pressure wash and clean hulls for maintenance and repairs
  • Assist with bottom painting, sanding, and basic boat maintenance
  • Maintain a clean and organized boatyard and work area
  • Operate forklifts, travel lifts, and other heavy equipment (training provided if necessary)
  • Assist technicians and craftsmen as needed in various boat repair and maintenance tasks
  • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines for equipment use and boat handling

Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a boatyard or marine environment (preferred, but not required)
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Comfortable with physical labor, including lifting, bending, and standing for long periods
  • Basic knowledge of boat handling and marine maintenance (a plus)
  • Willingness to learn and take direction
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
