Casco Bay Mooring was established in May 2017. Owned and operated out of Yarmouth, Maine located on Casco Bay. Owner, Stewart Hunt has a background in marine and biotechnology science, as well as years of commercial experience working on the waterfront. He and his crew members have been servicing over 350 moorings for the past 5 years in addition to Aquaculture and Sea Farming activities. Aquaculture accounts for a substantial part of the company’s revenue since we established two 4-acre experimental leases with the State Department of Marine Resources. Over the past 5 years, over 150,000 pounds of kelp has been farmed and harvested over the winter months and sold to Atlantic Sea Farms in Biddeford.

Scallop Aquaculture was also initiated in 2020 with over 30,000 scallops currently in cultivation. Summer 2022 was the company’s first farmed scallop harvest, making us one of three in the state selling whole animal scallops to restaurants and wholesalers along the Maine coast.

Thus, the current operations are two-fold: kelp is grown in the winter months while the summer months are filled with a robust mooring business. Both activities are supported by several work boats: a 23′ aluminum all-welded Pacific Skiff for seeding and kelp farm maintenance, a Fogg Craft 36′ custom aluminum all-welded catamaran barge designed and employed for harvesting kelp and mooring inspections.
