Marine Outboard Technician – Royal River Boat Repair

Description:

Come work with us here on the beautiful Royal River! Royal River Boat Repair is a full-service boatyard that handles both pleasure craft and commercial vessels. 

We are seeking a full-time, established outboard mechanic. Candidate should have 3+ years experience working with outboards and sterndrives. Preference given to candidates with previous certifications/training, with Mercury certification being ideal.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and repair faulty mechanical systems; electrical, plumbing, fuel, bilge, etc.
  • Maintain accurate records related to work orders, parts used, and time spent on tasks
  • Work closely with parts department to assure accurate procurement

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3+ years experience as an outboard/sterndrive technician
  • Capable of sea-trialing and docking boats at location on the Royal River
  • Appropriate certifications for your experience (Mercury, Yamaha, etc)
  • Required to own all basic tools necessary for service work
  • Must be able to consistently lift and/or manipulate with push/pull force +/- 50 pounds

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Mercury certification

Description

Safe Harbor Kittery Point is looking for an experienced Sailboat Rigger to join our team. Riggers effectively and efficiently install, maintain, repair, and replace sailboat rigging and sail systems. Applicant must have an extensive working knowledge of sailboat rigging and hardware. Must be detail oriented. 3 years of experience preferred. We have two waterfront facilities in Kittery and Eliot, Maine that service, store and repair recreational power and sailing vessels ranging from 18′ to +50′.  Position is full-time, year-round, with benefits.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Unstep and step masts
  • Assemble and disassemble spars
  • Tune standing rigging
  • Connect and troubleshoot mast lights and wiring
  • Install booms, sails, running rigging
  • Prepare sailboats to safely sail
  • Splice lines, service winches and furling systems-both manual and electrical/hydraulic.
  • Service sailboat steering systems and deck hardware
  • Wax and clean spars
  • Inspect and estimate repairs

Safety and Environmental Responsibilities

  • Follow SHM Safety and Environmental rules and complete required related training.
  • Wear proper personal protective equipment (may include safety glasses, gloves, life jackets and/or hard hats) as required for the task or work area. 
  • Report all accidents, injuries, spills and near misses immediately. 

Technical and Physical Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Sailing/ rigging knowledge required
  • Hoisting/Crane Operator experience preferred

Description

Applicant’s desired background to include outboard engine maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs and repowers, as well as a familiarity with related vessel systems. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair boats of all kinds
  • Utilize diagnostic equipment to test and repair boat engines, running gear, and navigational equipment
  • Install and test sanitation and refrigeration systems, cabinetry, electrical systems, steering gear, and accessories
  • Troubleshoot, test, repair, replace, remove and install vessel systems and components
  • Conduct thorough assessment prior to starting a job including: acknowledging the budgeted time and time frame for completion, proving the system and the element requiring service, sourcing parts if required
  • Overall knowledge of marine systems including electrical, plumbing & water systems
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and install vessel systems and components including but not limited to: electrical, electronics, HVAC, plumbing & water systems (fresh, salt, and waste), gas and diesel engines
  • Assign parts and purchases to the appropriate vessels/tickets
  • Must possess own tools
  • Availability to work overtime in order to meet deadlines

OUTBOARD TECHNICIAN

Brewer South Freeport Marine is looking for an outboard or general marine mechanic interested in servicing outboard motors. We have an opening for an additional outboard mechanic.

Job includes:

  • Winterize and commission outboards
  • Maintenance and repairs on all makes of outboards
  • Troubleshooting running and fuel issues
  • Sea trialing boats
  • Laptop diagnostics
  • Basic 12-volt wiring

We are servicing dealers for Yamaha and Honda outboards as well as a long list of other engine and systems manufacturers. We believe in attending factory training yearly. Brewer South Freeport Marine is a full-service boat yard and marina in the heart of Casco Bay. We have 110 slips and 15 seasonal moorings. We have 50 ton and 35 ton lifts and haul +/- 300 boats seasonally. We store 200 and 45 of those are inside in heated storage. We have very nice shops and working conditions.

Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Marine Technician to join our team. The Marine Technician will be responsible for all aspects of commissioning and decommissioning boats, mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostics, general maintenance and repair, and the delivery of the vessels. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in marine technology, exceptional problem-solving skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Boat commissioning, which includes; Installation, configuration, and testing of marine electronics and navigation systems
  • Boat decommissioning, which includes; removing personal items, draining fluids, disconnecting batteries, and securing the vessel for transport or storage
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with marine systems and components
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on new and used vessels, including engines, electrical systems, and other equipment
  • Accurate varnish application on both interior and exterior surfaces of vessels
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair boat bottom systems, ensuring hull fittings and other underwater components
  • Conduct sea trials and operational tests to ensure proper functioning of all systems
  • Maintain detailed records of all maintenance and repair work performed
  • Provide technical support and advice to customers and other team members, while building those relationships
  • Ensure accurate work order accounting by making timely entries into the time tracking and scheduling systems
  • Stay up-to-date with advancements in marine technology and industry best practices
