GENERAL MANAGER

We are looking for a dynamic individual to join the management team of our family operated boatyard business as General Manager of Hodgdon Yacht Services.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The General Manager (GM) is responsible for the management and supervision of all operating aspects of our full-service boatyard and marina located in the Boothbay region. 

The GM must be enthusiastic, a positive team leader, a professional with excellent business judgement, ambition, and have a vision for the future. Must be personable and approachable to all staff and have excellent communication skills and exceptional customer service abilities. If you are excited about being a part of the marine industry, we are interested in hearing from you.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or a combination of certifications and experience

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND QUALITIES:

  • Prior boatyard and marina management and a working knowledge of boat and yacht maintenance
  • Experience in leadership including public speaking and mentoring
  • Ability to execute responsibilities in a highly professional and pro-active fashion
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Ability to maintain a positive and motivated work environment, and be a team player
  • Exceptional customers service experience to handle and resolve disputes
  • Substantial sales and client relations/retention experience
  • Experience with Dockmaster or similar ERP systems
  • Experience with budgeting and driving profitability
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Smartsheet, and FareHarbor

POSITION SUMMARY:
HODGDON YACHTS is searching for an entry level Designer at our Tenders Division in Damariscotta, ME who will assist with the design of custom Tenders for the super yacht industry.  Successful candidates will have working knowledge of mechanical design and drafting.  Familiarity with naval architecture, boatbuilding methods and composite constructions are a plus.  They will assist senior members of the engineering team with preparation of drawings and documentation for fabrication and construction, as well as liaise with the production manager and other members of the production team to bring designs to completion.  We offer the opportunity to work on world class boats, great work environment, excellent benefits including health insurance, paid time off, holidays, 401(K) with employer match, and four-day work weeks.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ACTIVITIES:

  • Work directly with all individuals in the Design and Engineering Department as well as all other departments to support efficient production
  • Communicate with and support production department design needs based on the overall production schedule
  • Navigate, manipulate, or create 3D models and the associated drawings
  • Learn the basics of composite construction to assist with the design of components and tooling
  • Prepare models for 3D printing
  • Review specifications of equipment and designs to aid with regulatory compliance and safety considerations

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Familiarity with boat systems, boat construction, and naval architecture
    • Experience with 3D modeling, engineering drawing standards, and Microsoft Office
    • B.A. / B.S. or equivalent work experience
    • Solid Edge modeling a plus but not required

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:

Work schedule is generally 6:00am-4:30pm four days per week. From time to time, it may be necessary to work additional shifts or on weekends. Must be able to conform to the schedule, must follow safety rules and wear personal protective equipment as required.

Safe Harbor Great Island is looking for a Marine Rigger to join our growing team. Great Island takes pride in the quality of our Riggers by offering continuing training and education, fostering a collaborative environment and using a process driven method which provides consistent unparallel customer service.  Riggers possess and develop a broad range of technical skills including: splicing; sail tuning; rigging for crane lifts; metal working, welding and eventually crane operation. They possess and develop a thorough knowledge of working loads for lines, cables and blocks; as well as the mechanical maintenance and refurbishment of common sailing equipment such as winches, furlers masts, headsail furlers and windlasses. This broad set of skills allow the Riggers to take the lead on Yard projects involving sailboat rigging; anchoring; davits; cable steering systems; and removing / reinstalling hardware for mast and deck paint jobs.

The Rig Shop at Safe Harbor Great Island has greater capability then many yards. These capabilities include: weld repairs to masts; upgrades to Liesurefurl Booms; design and installation of sailing upgrades such as staysails and spinnaker sprit; and full mast replacements. The Rig Shop is a great place to develop and hone a wide variety of marine skills under the guidance of senior riggers with decades of experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Unstep and step masts
  • Assemble and disassemble spars
  • Tune standing rigging
  • Connect and troubleshoot mast lights and wiring
  • Install booms, sails, running rigging
  • Prepare sailboats to safely sail
  • Splice lines, service winches and furling systems-both manual and electrical/hydraulic.
  • Service sailboat steering systems and deck hardware
  • Inspect and estimate repairs
  • Must possess own tools
  • Availability to work overtime in order to meet deadlines
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager

Safety and Environmental Responsibilities

  • Follow SHM Safety and Environmental rules and complete required related training
  • Wear proper personal protective equipment (may include safety glasses, gloves, life jackets and/or hard hats) as required for the task or work area
  • Report all accidents, injuries, spills and near misses immediately

Technical and Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work with hands and experience with hand tools required
  • Sailing experience preferred
  • Previous experience preferred, willing to train
  • Hoisting/Crane Operator experience preferred
  • ABYC and/or manufacturer certifications a plus
  • Ability to ascend and descend a ladder
  • Familiarity with boats and nomenclature
  • Ability to lift 100 pounds
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions
  • Ability to hang, move, twist, and climb with loads
  • Must be able to go aloft
