York County Marina Recognized for High Environmental Standards
Portland, Maine - The City of Saco is home to Marston’s Marina, the Maine Clean Boatyards & Marinas Program’s most recently designated Clean Marina . In a brief ceremony at the marina Marston’s was recognized as York County’s first designated Clean Marina. The Marston’s team was praised for their high level of commitment to maintaining a clean, environmentally compliant facility.

In order to qualify as a Maine Clean Boatyard & Marina Marston’s Marina had to demonstrate a high level of compliance in each of the five program areas. To qualify a minimum score of 80% must be reached in each of the five areas. This goal was exceeded by Marston’s with at least 90% achieved in each area.

Participation in the Maine Clean Boatyards & Marinas Program is voluntary, with participating companies signing a pledge, completing a self-assessment and then inviting a verification team to inspect the facility. In accepting the award Gary Marston, one of the marina’s owners stated that he has always felt an obligation to maintain a clean environment at the facility and that participating in the Program was very helpful for him as the company continues its work on the environmental front. Marston noted that education and technical assistance with regard to environmental regulation are key components for businesses as they work towards compliance.

The Maine Clean Boatyards & Marinas Program is sponsored by the Maine Marine Trade Association with funding from the Maine Coastal Program at the State Planning Office.
